APALM PLANS TO PROVIDE TWO PRESENTATIONS AT THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE IN NEW ORLEANS IN 2018, ON TUESDAY EVENING 5/22: 7-8 pm “MALPRACTICE AVOIDANCE FROM AN EXPERT’S PERSPECTIVE” AND 8-9 pm “BECOMING A PA STANDARD OF CARE EXPERT WITNESS: HOW TO, TIPS AND ANSWERING YOUR QUESTIONS”. DETAILS TO BE PROVIDED. NEITHER ONE IS FOR CME CREDIT.
YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED THAT WE HAVE NOT SENT OUT AN ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER SINCE THE SPRING. IT HAS BEEN A PERENNIAL STRUGGLE TO FIND VOLUNTEERS TO PUT TOGETHER ARTICLES OF INTEREST TO MEMBERS. THEREFORE, WE ARE NOW LOOKING FOR A MEMBER TO ASSIST AS A “COMMUNICATIONS LIAISON”. IT IS OUR HOPE TO PROVIDE MORE FREQUENT ARTICLES, AND LINKS TO ARTICLES AND INFORMATION THAT MEMBERS MAY FIND USEFUL IN THE MEDICO-LEGAL ARENA. WE DO HAVE A BUDGET FOR A MODEST STIPEND FOR THIS WORK. 3) PRESIDENT JEFF NICHOLSON, PhD, PA-C, HAS A NEW RESEARCH ARTICLE PUBLISHED. In the July 30, 2016, issue of Medical Care Research and Review, Jeff Nicholson along with PA Researcher emeritus Rod Hooker and Douglas Brock have new research comparing the malpractice incidence and medical board disciplinary actions of PAs to that of physicians and nurse practitioners over the past ten years. This update’s Nicholson’s published landmark dissertation study (2009) comparing the same during the first 17 years of the National Practitioner Data Bank from 1990-2007. Both study’s indicate that PAs and NPs are sued and disciplined much less frequently than our physician colleagues.
